The story takes place eight months before the game .Hack//G.U being a prequel and the game. The opening theme is "Silly-Go-Round" by FictionJunction YUUKA and the Ending themes are "Boukoku Kakusei Catharsis" and "King Knight" by Ali Project.
The history places us in 2016 after a fire where the corporation does CC relaunch its online role-playing better now. It all begins when a novice player Haseo begins to play The Wolrd: R2 (improved version of the first game The World) unfortunately is attacked by PK - Player Killers but is saved by Ovan, a mysterious man who proposed to join his team known as Twilight Brigade (brigade twilight) after some thought you decide to join Haseo, the members of this brigade are intended to obtain an object called the twilight key (the key of the twilight).
