The series has strong influences from Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There the writer Lewis Carroll, The Wizard of Oz writer Frank Lyman Baum and the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The opening theme single performed by FictionJunction included "

Bezarius Oz, heir to one of four great duchies, has served 15 years. He lives a quiet, luxurious and carefree, darkened only by the absence of his father, with whom he seems to have a good relationship. With him are his uncle Oscar, Ada, her little sister, and Gilbert, his faithful servant, in an old mansion in which his coming of age ceremony will take place.
It is in this mansion where Oz is, accidentally, a small cemetery of a single stone from which hangs a gold pocket watch.
By taking the watch in his hands, the boy experienced a strange vision in which a girl tries to kill him. That night, at the ceremony, the life of Oz give a radical: a hooded appear and say they have come to judge the future Duke. Without knowing why, Oz is banished to the prison of the Abyss, a dark dimension inhabited by terrible creatures, apparently representing the sin that its mere existence. They enter into connection with a string-a creature native to the Abyss-shaped bloodstained black rabbit, Alice, which will prove to be the girl of his vision.
