The anime begins with a card battle amidst two guys and as one of them loses, he goes on to claim he would have won if he had stronger cards.
The first opening theme is "Vanguard" by
JAM Project and the first closing theme is "
Diamond Star" by Natsuko Aso and the second is "
Smash Up!!" by Hekiru Shiina.
Aichi Sendou is an Ordinary Middle School Student, who possesses one of the most dominant cards, Blaster Blade. He then encounters Toshiki Kai, who challenges him to a game of cards. He doesn't know how to play, but he did assemble Vanguard cards. Gratitude to Vanguard, he now finds himself making friends.
